As per Dave Dodgson's recent challenge I allowed Wordle to wash over my blog. Here is the pattern it left in the sand...
At first all I could see was my overuse of the adjective "great" and felt fairly disappointed that the defining feature of this blog was my limited use of the English language!
However, on reflection I saw the following patterns...
The verbs give an insight into some of the things that go on...
Teaching, laughing, saying, correcting, reading, using
Interested, looked, created, asked, started, noticed
Try, work, got, like
The nouns highlight a few of the people involved:
the Raven, each other, Scott, everyone, learners, bloggers
The adjectives, although limited, do describe my experiences!
Fun, amazing, great, unplugged, online, new
Again the nouns that came up highlighted a few of the ideas I've experimented with...
SceneIt, Reverse (reading), templates, projects etc…
And some more interesting nouns…
Discussion, story, vocab, notebooks, work, class, ideas, time, conversation, feedback, moments, giggles
So clearly a teacher's blog, with a limited vocabulary, who was surprised, in the end, by what can be uncovered, with a little time and very basic language analysis!
Thanks for the prompting Dave a very productive and reflective half hour :-D
Haha. One of my biggest words was "great" too! Glad you went past that though because the rest of your analysis is great. ;)

I am going to second what Tyson said about the wonderful way you did your analysis Anna - really great ;-) A very productive half hour indeed! Love these challenges. Your cloud for me does a great job at illustrating your blog's content - and your practice.
And I bet you're going to be more aware of your use of words ;-)

Thanks for taking up the challenge Anna and I'm glad it led to a nice half hour's reflection for you. :)

Hi Tyson - thanks for taking the time to make me feel a little better! It's quite a good way of pricking the bubble of English teacher superiority hey?! I've lost count of the number of times I've told my learners to be more original in their writing and not just use 'nice' etc...!
Ah well... glad I got past it too! ;-p I'll have to pop over and have a look at your response :-)
Cecilia - You are very encouraging thank you! And yeah definitely so much more aware... I was writing a comment today and before I'd even typed 'great' I caught myself!
The challenge was excellent wasn't it? I'm looking forward to reading yours and all the other responses as soon as I get a minute!!
Thank you Dave - it was well worth doing... such a good idea :-)
