Well it's been a while... I've had a good few weeks off where teaching has been the last thing on my mind and I've remembered how much I enjoy travel and adventure. However, the sunshiny days and lovely students have made it easier than expected to get back into the swing of things.
Before the holidays my learners especially requested some sessions on the royal wedding. There seemed to be a dirth of materials online apart from the exceptional Breaking News website by Sean Banville.
What I love about this website is the pic-n-mix ability of the lessons alongside the really great teaching ideas. He seems to find topics and areas that very few other people cover well and then creates a vast range of adaptable ideas and resources. For example, last year I was able to do a great session on women using many of the ideas found here.
This time round I adapted some of the ideas he posted here, added a new reading and a professional Jason Renshaw template and hey presto.

I didn't do everything there with any one single class but different elements have made it into most of my sessions today.
It's getting to that time of year when exam prep is more pressing so ESOL exam style activities were the focus. Overall the activities worked really well especially the WEG style speaking activity. Learners writing their own questions allows for much more variety and creativity in conversations.
Anway, thanks to Sean Banville for the range and breadth of teaching ideas he has so kindly made available :-) & to William and Kate for that extra bank holiday and a positive news story!
